98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: I Don't Want My Wife in My Weekly Poker Game W/My Buddies ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Jerry and it's about time with the guys. Here's his email: Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I love listening on my way to work everyday, and I never thought I'd have my own social dilemma but I do. For over five years, my best friends and I have enjoyed a weekly poker night. It’s almost a ritual, at this point. Now, out of the blue, my wife wants to be a part of it. On the surface, I guess that’s not a bad thing, but it must be stated that she knows NOTHING about poker other than what she’s seen in a couple of movies.  The truth is, this is my night with my friends...and I want it to stay that way. What’s the most tactful way to let her know this is my time with my friends and encourage her to do her own thing on that night, which is what she always used to do. I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I deserve time with my guys, right? Thanks for the...

Ask Amy: Sister dynamic remains family secret

Ask Amy: Sister dynamic remains family secret Dear Amy: I am a retired older woman. I’ve been chained to my sister “Janet” my entire life.We were treated as one person growing up and were expected to share everything. I believe our relationship was extremely unbalanced because I did all of the sharing, and Janet, the taking.Janet grew up to be arrogant and thoughtless. She always felt she was the most beautiful person in the room.I married young and had a family and career, she in turn had a career, multiple marriages and no children.I have a lot of anxiety when I remember how badly she treated me.I never told our parents how she behaved when we shared a dorm room in college. I don’t believe in betraying confidences, even if I am the victim. My family was unaware of her games.I helped Janet through her multiple divorces, did her homework in college, helped her find a career and always invited her to join me on vacation. She never reciprocated. On our last vacation with my family, she secretly played her entitlement over me when ...

France plans major police presence for 6 June day of protest French authorities plan to deploy 11,000 police, including 4,000 in Paris, today (6 June), when unions have called a nationwide day of protests against President Emmanuel Macron's law to raise the retirement age, the interior ministry said on Sunday (4 June). In a tweet, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the extra policing would "ensure the security of the demonstrations and guarantee the right to demonstrate".Unions have been planning today's protests since early May and they precede discussions scheduled for Thursday (8 June) on a draft bill proposed by the centrist Liot party aimed at cancelling the reform.Macron's reform to raise the retirement age to 64 from 62, has already sparked weeks of protests and strikes."We are not asking to bring down the government, but to bring down the retirement reform," said Sophie Binet, leader of France's hard-left CGT union, on BFM TV on Sunday."It's scandalous to want to apply this reform at breakneck speed," Binet said, calling the...

Overseas constituency MPs campaign gathers momentum

Overseas constituency MPs campaign gathers momentum A campaign for overseas constituency MPs is gathering momentum with fresh backing from a group of cross-party MPs and peers. The idea is to introduce overseas constituencies for the tens of thousands of UK citizens living and working abroad. This would mean they would be represented by an MP in the UK parliament, who represents all the other UK citizens in that country or region of the world. Such a move is not without precedent. For example, in France there are 11 overseas constituency MPs. In fact, there are 17 countries and electoral systems with overseas constituencies, including several other European countries such as Croatia, Italy and Romania. The campaign is being led by New Europeans UK and Unlock Democracy, and supported by campaign groups such as Brexpats - Hear Our Voice, Bremain in Spain, European Britons, British Multi Country Residents, along with various Liberal Democrat groups abroad. Many UK MPs and peers have expressed their support, including Ben Bradshaw MP (La...

Bridge: June 6, 2023 Unless you’re descended from Merlin, you will lose a trick occasionally. “Avoidance” is the technique of losing to the “safe” defender, whose lead to the next trick cannot hurt. You may need to avoid losing to a “dangerous” defender.Against 3NT, West despaired of using his flimsy hearts. He tried to find East’s long suit by leading a low diamond. It seemed to South that West had led fourth-highest from length, so South played low from dummy.East won and shifted to the jack of spades. South took his ace, but East was sure to get back in — with a club or a high diamond — to continue spades, and South lost three spades and five tricks in all.UNLUCKYSouth was unlucky, but his play was wrong. East was “dangerous” — a spade lead from him might cause trouble — and when South ducked the first diamond, he risked losing to East.South should put up the ace of diamonds and start the clubs. He can expect to win f...

French league files lawsuit after Ajaccio fans attack boy with cancer An attack on an eight-year-old Marseille supporter with advanced cancer and his family during a match against Ajaccio in Corsica has prompted a complaint filed by the French soccer league.Ajaccio prosecutor Nicolas Septe said in a statement quoted by L’Equipe newspaper on Tuesday that the league joined the case as a civil party in the judicial proceedings. Ajaccio has not lodged a formal complaint but has condemned the attack on the final day of the season on Saturday. The boy, named Kenzo, was invited to Corsica to attend the game and meet Marseille players.“The dream quickly turned into a nightmare when Kenzo and his parents, who had come in the colors of Olympique de Marseille, were shamefully assaulted by individuals who broke into their box,” Ajaccio said in a statement. The club said security staff intervened and escorted Kenzo and his family to the dressing room.“Even the most extreme stupidity cannot excuse such behavior,” Ajaccio said. “The club condemns these unspeakab...
