The MBTA has announced plans to lift a global speed restriction in place on the Green Line on Saturday, just over a week after the restriction went into effect last Thursday. Though officials said they hope to lift the 25 mile per hour global Green Line restriction, other restrictions will remain in place on sections of tracks across all T lines, continuing to cause headaches for some riders.MBTA Interim General Manager Jeff Gonneville discussed the changes at a press conference Friday afternoon. The T previously announced system-wide speed restriction on the Orange, Red, Green and Blue lines last Thursday after a Department of Public Utilities safety inspection identified issues. The T lifted global restrictions on the Red, Blue and Orange lines on Friday of last week. It then lifted the global restriction for the Mattapan Trolley on Thursday of this week even as block restrictions linger in some spots.Asked about the speed of inspections and repairs, Gonneville said...Still mild Saturday before a chilly Sunday

7Weather – Happy St. Patrick’s Day! A lot of green around the city as everyone took part in celebrating today. For good reason, it was nice out! Temperatures reached the upper 40s/50s despite a lot of clouds around. Those clouds could squeeze out a few sprinkles this evening through tonight. It’ll be light and few and far between. A few showers will move across the Cape tomorrow morning, but that’s about it.We’ll hold on to the clouds overnight and that’ll keep temperatures in the upper 30s/low 40s into tomorrow morning. That’ll be a good launching pad to get us into the 50s again tomorrow. We’ll see sunshine blended with some clouds and the wind won’t be too strong. This is your day to get outside! Sunday things change… That’s because a cold front, associated with area of low pressure bringing us sprinkles tonight, will work across the region Saturday morning. The cooler air won’t work in until Sunday. The morn...Danvers Police Department employee on leave amid investigation into management of drug drop-off box

At least one employee at the Danvers Police Department is on leave this week as an investigation into the management of a drug drop-off box at the police department’s headquarters moves forward. The box, resembling a mailbox, sits inside the police department facility. Individuals can insert unused, unwanted, expired or recalled medication into the box. The medication is then supposed to be safely disposed of. This week, though, Town Manager Steve Bartha said one police employee was placed on paid leave after allegations were made about “the management of the department’s drug take back box.” “The Town takes these allegations very seriously,” Bartha said in a statement. “We also want to be sensitive to the fact that these allegations, at this point, are simply that: allegations,” the statement continued.Drug drop boxes are not only found at police departments. Some pharmacies also have them. The owner of Cure-Aid Pharmacy in Lawrence explained s...‘Full River Red’ overflows with comedy, drama & intrigue

The Bruins stopped the bleeding on Thursday with a win in Winnipeg. We’ll find out on Saturday if they’re fully stitched up with the victory or if it only served as a temporary Band Aid.The B’s will face the hottest team in the NHL for an upper Midwest matinee at the Xcel Energy Centre when they face the Minnesota Wild, who are riding a 14-game point streak (11-0-3). A win on Saturday could put the Wild in first place in the Central Division as Minny trails the Dallas Stars by just one point. An identical performance to the one they gave to beat the Jets on Thursday probably won’t get it done against the Wild. That’s not to say the B’s didn’t do some good things in their 3-0 victory over the Jets. They were committed to doing the hard tasks it takes to win. They blocked 20 shots, seven by Charlie McAvoy, who saved a goal on one of them. Their league-leading penalty kill, which had allowed four goals in the previous three games, was back on the...Patriots add special teams ace Chris Board

What to know about especially green landscapes

SAN DIEGO – Driving around California, it’s hard not to notice just how lush and green vegetation has become after the overwhelming amount of rain the state has gotten. Some residents have taken to social media to express their bewilderment at the state’s vibrant landscape: “Growing up here I have never seen California this green in my life!” one resident said in a tweet.“The rain this year has been crazy. I have never seen California grass this healthy and green before,” another said. The series of storms this winter has eased nearly half of the state out of drought conditions, and for some, the especially green landscapes is the physical manifestation of that change. But experts say that the state's lands still have a long way to go to mend from years of drought: what residents are seeing after this particularly wet winter is considered fairly normal growth for the Golden State given the dynamics of the region’s climate.Photo of Palos Verdes, Calif. at sunset earlier this March.
