SF Giants shutout by Cardinals, fall to 1-5 in games started by Logan Webb

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:24:24 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — Call it poor timing. Call it bad luck. Call it another Giants loss with their ace on the mound.Their five-game winning streak came to an end on Thursday afternoon when Logan Webb lost his shutout in the seventh inning on yet another home run, his seventh allowed this year, in the Giants’ 6-0 loss to the Cardinals at Oracle Park. The Giants fell to 11-14 on the year. Surely the most hard to believe statistic of their young season is this: they’re 10-9 when anybody but Webb is on the mound and 1-5 when he pitches. It’s not like he’s been bad.The 26-year-old right-hander entered his sixth start of the year ranking in the top 20% of starting pitchers in walk rate, strikeout rate and chase rate. He was whipping in vicious sliders, evaporating changeups and mid-90s sinkers yet again on Thursday afternoon. He was (mostly) hitting his spots and in command of the at-bats.He took a shutout into the seventh, then found himself in a 2-2 count against Alex Burleson. Catcher B...

It also carries significant political implications, coming as Pence hints at entering the 2024 presidential race and a potential run against Trump, the Republican front-runner.The testimony came hours after a federal appeals court in a sealed order rejected a b...
