Corvus Coffee has brewed up a deal for a fifth location. Founder and owner Phil Goodlaxson signed a lease with Charlotte-based Crescent Communities in March to open a coffee shop inside the company’s Novel Rino apartment complex at 1300 40th St. “I’ve always thought of RiNo as an area where people care about what they’re doing and pursue excellence,” Goodlaxson said. He said Corvus will open in a lobby-like area, with about 650 square feet dedicated to the coffee operation attached to roughly 1,500 square feet of community lounge space. Crescent bought the land for $23.7 million two years ago and has been building a 483-unit complex that tops out at 12 stories. The complex partially opened early this month, and will fully open in the fall. Goodlaxson said he doesn’t expect to open until June because of coffee equipment delays. Goodlaxson started Corvus in his garage in 2010, selling at farmers markets before opening his first shop on South Broadway in 2012. Here we go again. A company unveils a marketing campaign deemed "woke" by some on the right, and calls for a boycott instantly erupt. In this case, the offending brand is Bud Light, that bastion of progressive thinking, which partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney for a new campaign.Kid Rock and other noteworthy conservatives were shocked, shocked to see Bud Light's parent, Anheuser Busch, so flagrantly courting LGBTQ consumers. For reasons of propriety, I won't link to the YouTube video in which Kid Rock opens fire on cases of Bud Light with a rifle and then expresses his unsubtle stance with a middle finger and the F-word.It's a pattern we've seen before in recent years, from Nike catching heat for partnering with social-justice advocate Colin Kaepernick to M&M's drawing fire for ... well, I have no idea; something to do with sexy footwear on cartoon candies, I think. There's one school of thought that says "get woke go broke." A push for minimum wage increases in the tourism industry was made by the Los Angeles City Council Wednesday.Councilman Curren Price introduced a motion seeking a $25 minimum wage in 2023 for tourism employees at city hotels and the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), with an increase to $30 per hour by 2028.“Tourism brings billions of dollars to our economy, and the businesses benefiting from tourism workers’ labor can afford to provide good jobs with fair wages,” Price said in a statement Wednesday. “The living wage movement is a social justice movement where here in Los Angeles nearly 9 out 10 tourism workers are people of color. It’s appalling to think that while the tourism industry has its future growth secured, the workers that keep this major economic engine functioning, safe and profitable are fighting to keep a roof over their heads.”Post-pandemic tourism in Los Angeles benefited from the county hosting major sporting events, such as the Super...Music Makers go HAM at NAMM

As we noted in our 2018 cover story about NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants), “the bulk of music-gear buyers in retail outlets, both online and in brick-and-mortar stores, are not professional musicians but rather hobbyists, people who make music for the simple pleasure of it sans career aspirations.” Which makes the annual trade show, underway now at the Anaheim Convention Center, an event for everyone, not just pro instrumentalists or would-be rockstars. The joy of music discovery and music making transcends age, gender, background and skill, and NAMM (which takes place later in the year after COVID-era rescheduling) hopes to keep it that way. As a NAMM exec told us, it’s not just a once a year tradeshow but an organization working year-round to create access to music education and highlight music celebration. Some of the biggest and best musicians in the industry come out to meet fans and hype their latest sponsorships and collabs, and this year is ...Brock Purdy heading to 49ers’ facility for Monday’s offseason program kickoff

We’re on the same page just in terms of the Niners, (Dr. Keith) Meister and my physical therapist out here.“Everyone’s on the same page, and everything’s going as planned. Very thankful for that. Just staying one day at a time from here.”While Purdy works on regaining his strength and range of motion, he will also be present for key offseason meetings with coach Ky...Latest news
