EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - Back to school is starting Monday for multiple school districts in the area, including East St. Louis School District 189. Classes officially got underway at 7:30 a.m. at East St. Louis Senior High School.Back-to-school welcome signs were all around the high school Monday morning. There were lots of positive vibes there to get the school year off to a positive start for the students.About 1,100 students attend school at East St. Louis Senior High. There is a new principal on campus this year as well. Dr. Brittany Green is replacing Alonzo Nelson. Green served seven years as principal of the Wyvetter Younge School of Excellence and has won multiple awards for her leadership.Students throughout District 189 are only able to wear clear backpacks to school as a safety issue. FLORISSANT, Mo. -- A St. Louis County man faces felony charges for burglarizing a nursing home. Andrew Novosad, 43, is being held on a cash-only $75,000 bond.Officers were called to the Crystal Creek Nursing Home on New Florissant Avenue on Monday, July 31. A Claremont man was arrested after trying and failing to burglarize two Chino Hills homes early Monday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.In the first burglary attempt, which occurred at 1:23 a.m. in the 14000 block of Evening Primrose Place, a man tried to open several doors in the home's backyard, though he had left by the time deputies arrived, officials said in a news release. Less than 20 minutes later, another burglary attempt was reported, this time in the 3100 block of Giant Forest Loop, which officials noted is "near the residence on Evening Primrose Palace."Investigators didn't find the burglar at this home, either, though they located Nathan Chow, 26, "in the backyard of another residence" on Giant Forest Loop, they said.Chow was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on a charge of attempted residential burglary. Meta has confirmed that internet personality Lil Tay's Instagram was hacked last week. The hack lead to false claims that the young teen had passed away. A representative with the social media giant confirmed to TMZ that they helped the 14-year-old recover her account from a hacker. A since-deleted post claimed both she and her brother had died. Things started to look suspicious when her father wouldn't confirm the passing when Insider reached out to him for comment. By Jen Christensen | CNNPeople in areas of the United States with high levels of a certain kind of air pollution have a greater risk of dementia, a new study found.The study, published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, looked at data from 27,857 survey participants between 1998 to 2016. About 15%, or 4,105, developed dementia during the study period, and all lived in areas of the US with higher concentrations of particle pollution than those who didn’t develop dementia, the researchers found. Turns out Bob Myers won’t be sitting still for long.The longtime Warriors executive who stepped away from his post as general manager and president of basketball operations this summer has already figured out some of his plans for the upcoming NBA season.Myers will join ESPN’s NBA coverage for the 2023-24 season as a studio and game analyst, the network announced Monday morning along with several other sweeping changes to its NBA game and studio coverage plans.Myers’ duties have him as part of the rotation of commentators on NBA Countdown.
