HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) — Police said Monday they found the body of a missing man and what they believe are remains of a second person swept away in severe flooding that hit Nova Scotia over the weekend. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they recovered the body of a 52-year-old man from Windsor, Nova Scotia, in a search area northwest of Halifax, while the second person’s remains were found on shore in a tidal area in the neighboring county.Four people, including two children, were reported missing Saturday when the two vehicles they were travelling in were swamped in the regional municipality of West Hants.A series of thunderstorms that began Friday and stretched into the following day dumped up to 250 millimeters (10 inches) of rain on several parts of the province, causing widespread damage. Provincial officials said six bridges were wrecked and 19 damaged and at least 50 roads sustained significant damage.Sgt. Rob Frizzell said police were working with the medical examiner...WTOP staffer shares personal memories of Tony Bennett: He was ‘Mr. B’ to me

I’ve gotten way out of the habit of sharing anything too deeply personal on the internet. But so many people — global leaders, U.S. presidents past and present, artists, fans and peers — have been posting amazing tributes, heartfelt stories, accolades and superlatives about the singular national treasure that was Tony Bennett.I really felt like I needed to try push myself to share a bit more. Tony Bennett was such an extraordinary man, if anyone is worth it, he is.When I met my beloved friend Antonia at Berklee College of Music in Boston, for some reason it never occurred to me that I’d ever meet her legendary father, let alone spend any real time around him. (Think about it: how often do you meet your friends’ parents?) For two people from sides of the tracks that couldn’t be more “opposite,” Antonia and I were instantly thick as thieves, and I never really thought much about her father, although I knew who he was.The first time I met Tony (whom I call “Mr. B” as my way to strike a...Nucor: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

Criminals are targeting valet stands in the nation’s capital, and that has the city urging those who park cars to rethink how they do business.Since last Thursday, at least two restaurants have seen thieves run up to valet stands and steal the keys of several vehicles. In their aftermath, Pamela Smith, acting D.C. police chief, said her officers have been educating businesses on best practices when it comes to handling keys.“Our community engagement officers have been going out to the businesses … where our valets are located to ensure that they look for a different place or measure in order to put those keys, so they’re not readily accessible to someone to actually walk up and grab it, and then take it,” Smith said. The most recent theft happened on Saturday night at the valet stand at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse on I Street, where a person came up and grabbed keys that were sitting on the table and ran off. Fobs for a Maserati, Honda and Kia were reported stolen...Bengals owner Mike Brown stays mum on the state of contract negotiations with QB Joe Burrow

CINCINNATI (AP) — Joe Burrow reported to training camp without a long-term contract extension, and Cincinnati Bengals executives on Monday refused to discuss the state of the negotiations with the franchise quarterback.Signing the 2022 Pro Bowler and 2021 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year to an extension was a goal of the team this summer. Both sides have done an incredible job of keeping details of the talks locked down tight.“I have bound myself not to talk about Joe’s contract,” Bengals owner Mike Brown told reporters a day before camp opens. “They don’t think it’s helpful for the negotiations. The other side has made the same commitment, and they have not broken it.”The new deal for the top overall pick in the 2020 draft is expected to make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL.Cincinnati picked up the fifth-year option on Burrow’s rookie contract in April ahead of an expected megadeal, which, based on what other top quarterbacks are making, could put him in the range ...ChampionX: Q2 Earnings Snapshot
